The 10th edition of the AVS Awards featured the novelty of the incorporation of the Toni Sorolla Award, AVS-Sogeviso which, in memory of the former general manager of Sogeviso, who died last year, rewards social innovation initiatives in relation to people and architecture.
On 9 May, the Casa de la Arquitectura in Madrid hosted the 10th edition of the AVS Awards of the Spanish Association of Public Housing and Land Management, which this year included the new addition of the Toni Sorolla, AVS-Sogeviso Award for social innovation initiative in relation to people and architecture, in recognition of our former Chief Executive, whose family received a well-deserved tribute at the same gala. The aim of this award is to highlight actions in the field of housing that improve the quality of people’s lives and their dignity.
In its premiere, the Toni Sorolla Award, AVS-Sogeviso was awarded by Xavier Aspachs, Deputy Chairman of Sogeviso, to Procasa (Housing Promotion and Management in Cadiz) for its actions and social intervention to improve the habitability of housing in an area in need, a social care mechanism in an area of high vulnerability during the execution of the works.
Similarly, the runner-up prize went to Sareb’s Social Rental with Accompaniment Programme, whose Chairman, Javier Torres, highlighted the figure of Toni as a source of inspiration for a programme that has helped more than 6,500 vulnerable families.
The awards ceremony was attended by a broad representation of the different sectors related to public housing, as well as institutional representatives, including the Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda of the Spanish Government, Isabel Rodríguez, and the Regional Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, Jorge Rodrigo Domínguez.
